e-Kerala project aims for complete e-literacy in State

Our Correspondent
The Government of Kerala has launched the e-Kerala project with the objective of raising internet awareness among the general public. The project will be implemented by Kerala State Rutronics under the Department of Industries. The massive Internet-based computer literacy programme will benefit one crore people.

The e-Kerala project will help to educate students and youth as well as adults on such matters in the special circumstances of COVID-19 and when the online system becomes a part of normal life. Classes on online banking, online marketing, cybersecurity and online education will enable people to use Internet securely. Those from the school level onwards are part of the scheme. The services of teachers in Rutronics’ network will also be made available for this. In addition to online classes, contact classes can be provided as required.

The project, which will be launched as part of the second 100-day programme, is being implemented on a constituency basis. In the first phase, the e-Kerala project will be implemented in Mattannur constituency. The constituency, which includes one municipality and eight panchayats, has a population of about 2.5 lakh. It is estimated that about 70,000 of these people need basic Internet education. Classes are expected to be completed within 30 to 50 days. Subsequently, with the implementation of the e-Kerala scheme in other constituencies, complete e-literacy can be achieved in the State.
