Dubai ∙ Dubai Police have announced a strengthened traffic safety campaign as part of the nationwide ‘Summer Without Accidents’ initiative led by the Ministry of Interior, running until September 1. The campaign aims to reduce traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities during the critical summer months.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at Address Sky View Hotel, attended by high-ranking police officials and stakeholders from the public and private sectors. Present were Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs; Major General Rashid Khalifa bin Darwish Al Falasi, Director of the General Department of Transport and Rescue; Brigadier Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police and Chairman of the Traffic Awareness and Safety Committee; and senior representatives from the Roads and Transport Authority and private sector partners such as ENOC Retail.
Major General Al Ghaithi emphasized that the campaign integrates efforts from both governmental and private entities to promote safer roads across the UAE. He highlighted that summer presents unique challenges, not just because of extreme temperatures, but also due to increased driver fatigue, distraction, and risky behavior.
“Using mobile phones while driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic accidents,” he noted. “We often see drivers ignoring safe distances, running red lights, or speeding — all of which contribute to avoidable tragedies.”
Al Ghaithi also stressed that true road safety relies on individual responsibility. “Police cannot be everywhere. Motorists and pedestrians alike must make conscious decisions to follow safety protocols. This is a collective effort.”
As part of the initiative, Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority and private sector partner AutoPro (a subsidiary of ENOC), are offering free vehicle inspections throughout the campaign period. These checks include tyre condition, brake systems, and engine cooling — all critical during the hot summer months where temperatures can exceed 50°C.
“There’s no excuse to neglect maintenance,” said Al Ghaithi. “A small fault can turn dangerous in extreme heat. We want to eliminate preventable accidents before they happen.”
The campaign also addresses the complexity added by the UAE’s multicultural driving population, with residents from over 200 nationalities. Different driving habits and awareness levels necessitate targeted outreach and multilingual awareness campaigns.
“This initiative is not just about reducing statistics; it’s about saving lives — protecting families, children, and futures,” said Al Ghaithi. “Our long-term goal is zero fatalities, and every step counts.”
Dubai Police shared data from previous summer periods, showing a downward trend but underscoring the need for continued vigilance:
Despite the improvement, the figures remain concerning, prompting ongoing education, enforcement, and preventive strategies.
AutoPro, with 54 service branches and 200 patrol locations across the UAE, is conducting comprehensive vehicle health checks. These services aim to support motorists and reduce breakdown-related incidents on roads.
Zaid Alqufaidi, Executive Director of ENOC Retail, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the campaign, noting that road safety is a shared responsibility. “By offering proactive maintenance services, we are contributing to safer roads and supporting national goals.”
At the close of the event, Dubai Police presented a certificate of appreciation to AutoPro, acknowledging their continued involvement and contribution to promoting road safety under the ‘Summer Without Accidents’ campaign.
