Dubai ∙ In a move to enhance maritime safety and regulatory compliance, the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) has announced that all marine vessels operating in Dubai must now include and properly display a Hull Identification Number (HIN).
This new requirement applies to all vessels during registration, licensing, and renewal procedures. Vessel manufacturers, owners, operators, and importers are required to comply with the updated regulation.
The HIN is an internationally recognized standard consisting of a unique sequence of letters and numbers affixed to the vessel’s hull or structure. It must be clearly visible and accessible, enabling the traceability of a vessel’s manufacturing and operational history.
The DMA emphasized that the HIN facilitates verification of compliance with technical specifications and inspection records. It also ensures that all licensing documentation aligns with official standards submitted through the DMA’s electronic system.
Failure to provide a valid and approved HIN may result in the rejection of the vessel’s registration or cause delays in inspection and administrative procedures, including license renewal.
In an official statement, the DMA urged all stakeholders to fully cooperate with the newly issued regulatory guidelines, stating that this initiative plays a critical role in strengthening maritime sector performance and protecting lives and property within Dubai’s territorial waters.
