COVID-19: India shows a trend of declining average daily cases

India is showing a trend of declining average daily cases over the past five weeks. After a month, on October 9, active cases fell below the 9-lakh mark and have steadily followed a downward slope, the Health Ministry has said.

Meanwhile , 55,300 new cases of COVID-19 cases and 706 deaths in 24 hours takes india’s overall tally to 71,75,881 including 8,38,729 active cases, 62,27,296 cured and 1,09,856 deaths, said the Union Health Ministry.

With 77,760 new recoveries, India’s recovery rate has gone up to 86.8 percent. The Covid death rate in India, which has been reporting between 800 and 900 deaths a day since early August, is 1.5 per cent.

This is the first time in two months that India has reported around 55,000 coronavirus cases in a day and second consecutive day when the total new infections were under 70,000 since the September surge.

The country’s 24-hour COVID-19 cases have come down to an average of 72,000 to 74,000 from the earlier 90,000-plus figure.

The total number of samples tested up to October 12 is 8,89,45,107 including 10,73,014 samples tested on Monday, according to Indian Council of Medical Research. Now the daily positivity rate in India stands at 5.2 percent
