India recorded a spike of 63,371 new coronavirus cases on October 16 along with 895 fatalities. With the latest surge in COVID-19 cases, India’s coronavirus tally now stands at over 73 lakh.

India currently has 73,70,469 coronavirus cases and 1,12,161 deaths, according to the health ministry data.

Among the 73 lakh cases, there are 8,04,528 active cases, 64,53,780 cured cases and 1,12,161 deaths, according to the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.

India’s coronavirus tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with more than 1.5 million cases recorded in the state. However, it has contributed over 19,000 to the single-day recoveries followed by Karnataka with more than 8,000 recoveries, the healthy ministry said.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 3.21 lakh on Thursday with authorities reporting 3,483 new cases, while 26 deaths pushed the total number of fatalities to 5,924.

This is the third consecutive day that the national capital has recorded over 3,000 new cases. Every winter air pollution spikes in India. Doctors worry what it will mean for COVID-19 patients with breathing problems.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that 9,22,54,927 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country till yesterday (October 15). Of these, 10,28,622 were tested yesterday.
