Days after Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro had tested positive for COVID-19, another South American president Jeanine Anez, has tested positive for coronavirus.
Bolivia’s interim President made this announcement in a video message on Twitter. In the video she said she had conducted a test after many ministers of her cabinet had fallen ill. She further added that she will continue to work from isolation and will remain in quarantine for 14 days and take another test after that.
She has taken charge as interim president after the then-incumbent Evo Morales resigned and fled the country following three weeks of unrest over his controversial re-election.
The interim leader’s illness comes at a time when Bolivia is gearing up to hold general elections on September 6. Bolivia has registered about 43,000 positive cases with more than 1,500 fatalities.
