The State Government has high hopes on Biju Prabhakar IAS as he assumed the additional responsibility of managing director of KSRTC on Monday. With his experience as a consultant for various companies, the state government believes that Mr. Prabhakar can be instrumental in reviving KSRTC from its never-ending doom.
At present, Mr. Prabhakar is serving as social welfare department secretary. The additional charge of KSRTC is given to Mr. Prabhakar after KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director IG MP Dinesh resigned from the post. Two years back the Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) topped the list of 58 loss-making PSUs (Public Sector Undertaking) in Kerala. The apprehensions about COVID-19 and lockdown have again put KSRTC in a tough spot as the services are suffering heavy losses. It would be a heavy responsibility for Mr. Prabhakar to plan ways to save KSRTC from crisis in the future. The labour union also supported the government’s decision which is a good sign. Earlier, the labour union of KSRTC had issues with the authorities which even resulted in the removal of former MD Tomin J Thachankary.
Mr. Prabhakar who was a District Collector in Thiruvananthapuram, holds Masters in Mechanical Engineering. He is the son of Thachadi Prabhakaran, a former Minister of Kerala and member of Indian National Congress. He is one of the pioneers in setting up India’s first educational channel for Victers TV, which is now the primary platform for virtual classes for students across Kerala in the times of COVID-19.
