“Beware of Impostors on Video Calls”; Royal Oman Police Warns Against Identity Fraud Scams

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a warning to the public against identity fraud scams conducted via video calls. ROP advised people not to share any personal or financial information unless the identity of the caller is verified through official channels.

Scammers are reportedly impersonating police officers and government officials using video calling platforms, according to ROP. These fraudsters use fake usernames, email addresses (such as omanroyalpolice087@gmail.com), and even doctored images of official uniforms and ID cards to make their calls appear genuine.

Authorities warned that these scammers often request personal or financial information or threaten victims with false legal actions if their demands are not met. Their primary goal is to steal sensitive data such as bank details, ID numbers, or access codes.

The Royal Oman Police has urged the public to remain vigilant and to treat any video call or message asking for personal or financial information with extreme caution.
