Kuwait City : Registration of multiple vehicles in the name of foreigners may be banned in Kuwait. The proposal is in the traffic law which will be presented in the cabinet meeting next week. It will also include tougher provisions for traffic violations. The law is being tightened in the context of an average of 300 road accidents in Kuwait every day. Authorities indicated that 90 percent of these were due to careless driving.
A fine of 150 dinars will be levied for careless driving, crossing a red signal and racing. The fine for using a mobile phone while driving has been increased to 75 dinars.
The fine is 30 dinars for not wearing a seat belt and 15 dinars for parking in prohibited areas. Apart from imprisonment and fine, those practicing with the vehicle will also be assigned a period of compulsory community service.
