Another farmer union ends protest days after Red Fort violence

After Rashtriya Mazdoor Kisan Sangathan and Bhartiya Kisan Union (Bhanu), now the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Lok Shakti) has also announced that it is ending its protest against the farm laws and withdrawing from the ongoing agitation following the violence at Red Fort that marred the protest.

Bharatiya Kisan Union’s Bhanu faction on Wednesday announced it was withdrawing the protest against the new farm laws in the wake of the Republic Day violence.

BKU (Bhanu) president Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh told reporters he was deeply pained by whatever happened during the tractor parade in Delhi on Republic Day.

Delhi police on Thursday issued lookout notices against over 20 farmer leaders and sought an explanation over the breach of the agreement that led to the violence at Red Fort on Republic Day.

The tractor parade on January 26 that was held to highlight farmer unions’ demand for the repeal of the Centre’s three agriculture laws descended into anarchy as protesters deviated from designated routes, attacked police, overturned vehicles and hoisted a religious flag on the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort.
