Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan has issued a letter to all judiciary officers in Bengal and Andaman asking them to avoid using ‘My Lord’ or ‘Lordship’ for the judges. Instead he expressed his desire to be addressed as ‘Sir’.
High Court Registrar General Rai Chattopadhyay conveyed the message of the Chief Justice via email to all district judges and chief judges on Tuesday.
The decision has been taken by the Chief Justice himself. “It is the kind desire of the Hon’ble Chief Justice that henceforth, officers of district judiciary, including members of Registry would address the Hon’ble Chief Justice as ‘Sir’ instead of ‘My Lord’ or ‘Lordship’, in conformity with the applicable judicial and administrative precedents”, the letter said.
