A Powerful Fusion of Music and Movement:Carmina Burana – The Ballet Premieres at Dubai Opera

Dubai, UAE : Dubai Opera is set to stage the Dubai premiere of Carmina Burana – The Ballet on May 23 and 24, 2025, presenting a powerful reinterpretation of Carl Orff’s iconic cantata through a fusion of classical and contemporary dance.

Renowned for its thunderous choral masterpiece O Fortuna, Carmina Burana is one of the most celebrated compositions in classical music. This ballet adaptation, under the visionary choreography of Edward Clug, transforms the score into an emotionally charged stage performance, blending music and movement to explore timeless themes of fate, love, fortune, and human desire.

“We are thrilled to bring Carmina Burana – The Ballet to Dubai Opera for the first time,” said Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera. “This production exemplifies the level of artistic excellence we strive to share with our audiences. Through Edward Clug’s inventive choreography and Orff’s powerful music, this ballet creates a visceral and unforgettable experience.”

The production is performed by the acclaimed Ballet of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, known for its seamless integration of classical technique and contemporary artistry. Since its international debut in 2021, the ballet has received critical acclaim for its striking visuals, emotional intensity, and innovative movement vocabulary.

The creative team behind the production includes Marko Japelj (set design), Leo Kulaš (costume design), and Tomaž Premzl (lighting design), contributing to a rich and immersive theatrical experience.

With just two performances scheduled, this limited engagement is expected to draw ballet aficionados, classical music lovers, and culture seekers alike.
