962 test positive for COVID-19 on August 3; 815 cured

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that 962 new active cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the State on August 3 even as 815 patients have recovered from the disease. There are 801 cases of infection through contact and the source in 40 cases is unknown. 55 are returnees from abroad and 85 from other States. 15 healthcare workers were also infected.

The Chief Minister also condoled the deaths of 68-year-old Cleatus from Thiruvananthapuram district and 52-year-old Sasidharan from Alappuzha district. So far there have been 84 deaths in the Sate due to COVID.

Thiruvananthapuram district accounts for the maximum positive cases in 205 persons followed by 106 in Ernakulam district, 101 from Alappuzha district, 85 each in Thrissur and Malappuram districts, 66 from Kasaragod district, 59 in Palakkad district, 57 from Kollam district, 37 in Kannur district, 36 from Pathanamthitta district, 35 in Kottayam district, 33 from Kozhikode district, 31 in Wayanad district and 26 from Idukki district.

Those infected through contact are 197 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 87 in Ernakulam district, 86 in Alappuzha district, 73 in Malappuram district, 63 in Thrissur district, 56 each in Kollam and Kasargod districts, 32 in Kozhikode district, 31 each in Wayanad and Palakkad districts, 29 in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts, 23 in Kannur district and eight in Idukki district.

The infected healthcare workers are six in Thiruvananthapuram district and three each in Ernakulam, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Six 6 KSE employees in Thrissur district were also infected by the virus.

The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative are 253 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 67 in Palakkad district, 59 from Pathanamthitta district, 55 in Kottayam district, 54 from Idukki district, 52 in Thrissur district, 50 each from Alappuzha and Kasaragod districts, 40 in Kollam district, 38 each from Ernakulam and Malappuram districts, 26 in Kozhikode district, 25 from Kannur district and eight in Wayanad district.

Till now, 15,282 people have been cured of Coronavirus and presently, 11,484 patients are undergoing treatment.

There are currently 1,45,234 people under observation in various districts of the state – 1,34,455 in home or institutional quarantine and 10,779 in hospitals. 1,115 people were admitted to the hospital today.

During the last 24 hours, 19,343 samples were tested. A total of 8,34,215 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 3,926 samples are yet to come. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,25,233 samples were collected from high-risk groups and the results of 1,254 samples are awaited.

Ninteen new places were demarcated as hotspots today even as 10 were excluded taking the total number of hotspots in Kerala to 506.
