9,250 people confirmed with COVID-19 on Oct. 9

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 9,250 people in Kerala on October 9. The worst affected districts were Kozhikode 1,205, Malappuram 1,174, Thiruvananthapuram 1,012, Ernakulam 911, Alappuzha 793, Thrissur 755, Kollam 714, Palakkad 672, Kannur 556, Kottayam 522, Kasaragod 366, Pathanamthitta 290, Idukki 153 and Wayanad 127.

Twenty-five deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19 on the day. Sasidharan Nair (75) from Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Chellammal (70) from Parashala, Manju (29) from Vamanapuram, Nusaifa Beevi (65) from Nagaroor, Omana (68) from Keezharur, Velukutty (68) from Aryanad, Gunaseelan (53) from Kanyakumari, Nazeera Beevi (53) from Kollam, Sushilan (45) from Anchal, Thomas Philippos (68) from Eravipuram, Telma (81) from Kundara, Abdul Rahman Kunju (63) from Ellapikulam, Alappuzha, Prakashan (68) from Kadakalpally, Sijo Thomas (38) from Kottayam, Ammini Sreedharan (80) from Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam, Shivan (84) from Vypin, Fathima (79) from Muvattupuzha, Shaji (57) from Perumbavoor, Subaida (55) from Kodungallur, Thrissur, Raghavan (85) from Vadakara, Kozhikode, Abdul Qadir, (70) of Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, Beavathu, (60) of Ponnani, Mariam, (62) of Purang, Muhammad, (70) of Arakuparambu and Abdullah (61) of Chemmad, Kasargod. This brings the total death toll to 955. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Twenty-five of those diagnosed with the disease were from foreign countries and 143 from other States. A total of 8,215 people were infected through contact. Contact sources for 757 were not clear. A total of 111 health workers were infected through contact.

The test results of 8,048 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative.

There are currently 2,73,686 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,45,261 were under home / institutional quarantine and 28,425 in hospitals. A total of 2,892 people were admitted to hospital on the day.

A total of 68,321 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 34,71,365 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 2,12,185 samples were sent for testing from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and individuals with greater social contact. There were 11 new hotspots and 38 areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 694 hotspots.
