8,511 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on Oct. 23; 26 dead

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 8,511 people in Kerala on October 23. Outbreaks were reported in Malappuram 1,375, Thrissur 1,020, Thiruvananthapuram 890, Ernakulam 874, Kozhikode 751, Alappuzha 716, Kollam 671, Palakkad 531, Kannur 497, Kottayam 426, Pathanamthitta 285, Kasaragod 189, Wayanad 146 and Idukki 140.

Twenty-six deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19. Shobhana Kumari (54) from Poyathuvila, Thiruvananthapuram, Somasekharan Nair (78) from Malayinkeezhu, Joseph (63) from Vellanad, Shyamala (63) from Aruvipuram, Karthiyani (87) from Kadapakkada, Kollam, Thangal Kunju (70) from Vazhathottam, Gopinathan (60) from Komalloor, Alappuzha, Ayyappan (70) from Chengannur, Shantha (84) from Cherthala, Clement (70) from Kattoor, Thresyamma (60) from Ambalappuzha, Jolly Joseph (70) from Edathwa, Abdul Hameed (83) from Punnapra, Ansi George (54) from Kochalu, Kottayam, Lakshmikuttyamma (70) from Amayannur, Joseph Mathew (86) from Kanjirapally, Vasu (76) from Vaikom, Eliamma (97) from Parampuzha, Abdul Rahman (76) from Pallipuram, Ernakulam and N from Ramapuram were arrested. P. Usman (68), Pareed (70) from Kuttur, Thrissur, Mohammad Koya (85) from Kozhikode Medical College, Gopalan (59) from Atholi, Abdulla Koya (82) from Chalappuram, Abdul Razzaq (67) from Payyannur, Kannur and Mariyam, from Idalyil Peedika were whose deaths were confirmed as due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 1281. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

One hundred and forty-eight of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State. A total of 7269 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 1,012 was not clear. Eight-two health workers were infected through contact.

The test results of 6,118 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. With this, 95,657 people have been diagnosed with the disease and were still undergoing treatment.

There are currently 2,80,184 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,57,404 are under home / institutional quarantine and 22,780 in hospitals. A total of 2,770 people were admitted to hospitals on the day.

A total of 64,789 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 42,12,611 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay.
There are 12 new hotspots and 14 areas have been excluded from hotspot list. With this, there are a total of 616 hotspots.
