COVID-19 has been confirmed for 6,591 people in Kerala on October 20. The worst affected districts were Thrissur 896, Kozhikode 806, Malappuram 786, Ernakulam 644, Alappuzha 592, Kollam 569, Kottayam 473, Thiruvananthapuram 470, Palakkad 403, Kannur 400, Pathanamthitta 248, Kasaragod 145, Wayanad 87 and Idukki 72.
Twenty-four deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19. J. Neshayyan (85), a native of Thiruvananthapuram, Sreekumaran Nair (56) from Poozhanad, Sivaprasad (25) from Kulathur and K Kunju Sankaran (80) from Vedivachan Kovil, Lucius (50) from Valiyathura, Pushpagadan (64) from Konni, Pathanamthitta, Philip Abraham (50) from Pandanad, Alappuzha, Muhammad Kunju (85) from Vandanam, Carmeli (68) from Ernakulam, Baby (86) from Thripunnithura, Rosy (65) from Kodakara, Thrissur, Baby Rajan (57) from Iringalakuda, Sarojakshan (82) from Kaiparambu, Varadaraj (76) from Chennaipara, KK Paul (70) from Paravattani, Mohammad (97) from Naduvattam, Malappuram, Beyumma (85) from Valancherry, Marakkar (80) from Cheenikkal, Jishnu (37) from Pulpetta, Karuppan (75) from Karuvarkund, Sulainman (63) from Pullukkara, Kannur. P. Ali from Muzhipilangad, Mohammad Afzal, 59, of Thana and Suresh, 42, of Karivellur were the dead. This brings the total death toll to 1,206. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
One hundred and five of those diagnosed with the disease were from outside the state and 5,717 people were infected through contact. Contact source of 707 was not clear.
Sixty-two health workers were infected through contact. The test results of 7,375 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. There were currently 2,82,219 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,58,747 are under home / institutional quarantine and 23,472 are under hospital surveillance. A total of 2,592 people were admitted to hospitals on the day.
A total of 53,901 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 40,29,699 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay.
There were six new hotspots and 14 areas have been excluded from the list. With this, there were a total of 628 hotspots.
