COVID-19 has been confirmed for 5960 people in Kerala on January 16. The district-wise break-up of the number of infected are Ernakulam 1046, Kozhikode 722, Kottayam 552, Malappuram 489, Pathanamthitta 487, Kollam 445, Thrissur 421, Thiruvananthapuram 377, Alappuzha 355, Palakkad 348, Wayanad 238, Kannur 207, Idukki 181 and Kasaragod 92.
COVID-19 has not been confirmed in the last 24 hours by anyone from the UK. COVID-19 has so far been confirmed by 56 people who recently came from the UK. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further testing. A total of nine people were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus.
A total of 64,908 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 9.18. A total of 88,16,427 samples have so far been sent for testing, including LAMP and antigen testing.
It has been confirmed that 27 deaths in the last few days were due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 3,442. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
Eighty-seven of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and 5,403 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 417 is not clear. Ernakulam 945, Kozhikode 706, Kottayam 507, Malappuram 469, Pathanamthitta 442, Kollam 437, Thrissur 406, Thiruvananthapuram 278, Alappuzha 352, Palakkad 212, Wayanad 224, Kannur 163, Idukki 176 and Kasaragod 86 were affected by the disease.
The disease affected 53 health workers. Pathanamthitta 11, Ernakulam 9, Thrissur 7, Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad 5 each, Kozhikode, Kannur 4 each, Kollam 3, Wayanad, Kasaragod 2 each and Idukki 1 were affected by the disease today.
The test results of 5,011 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 361, Kollam 173, Pathanamthitta 256, Alappuzha 442, Kottayam 586, Idukki 301, Ernakulam 846, Thrissur 367, Palakkad 218, Malappuram 456, Kozhikode 561, Wayanad 180, Kannur 207 and Kasaragod 57 were negative today. With this, 68,416 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 7,70,768 have so far been freed from COVID-19.
There are currently 2,05,561 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,94,467 are under home / institutional quarantine and 11,094 are in hospitals. A total of 1355 people were admitted to the hospital today.
There are two new hotspots and they are Thavinjal in Wayanad district (Cantonment zone sub-wards 5 and 19) and Mundakkayam (6) in Kottayam district. Nine areas are excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are currently a total of 412 hotspots.
