COVID-19 has been confirmed for 5,722 people in Kerala on November 21. Twenty-six deaths have been confirmed due to the viral infection.
The district-wise break-up of the infected are Malappuram 862, Thrissur 631, Kozhikode 575, Alappuzha 527, Palakkad 496, Thiruvananthapuram 456, Ernakulam 423, Kottayam 342, Kollam 338, Kannur 337, Idukki 276, Pathanamthitta 200, Kasaragod 145 and Wayanad 114.
During the last 24 hours, 67,017 samples were tested. The test positivity rate is 8.54%. A total of 56,88,651 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay.
The people whose death have been confirmed due to COVID-19 are Gomati Ammal (98) from Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, Suresh Kumar (56) from Venganur, Asma Beevi (75) from Tholikode, Mandakini (90) from Kanjirathara, Alappuzha, Ramani Thankachan (62) from Chingavanam, Kottayam, Alice John (89) from Melukavu. K. Madhavan (74) from Ashokapuram, Ernakulam, T.M. Yusuf (52) from Perumattam, Lonappan (82) from Kanimangalam, Thrissur, Savitri (82) from Thrissur, Raghunandanan(78) from Chittada, Nisha (35) from Attock, Amina (74) from Thavanur, Malappuram, Ramaswamy (89) from Manjeri, Shekharan (78) from Tirur, Shakthi Das (72) from Chungathara, Musthafa (44) from Clary, Koppu (85) from Pathiramkode, Sethumadhavan (62) from Nilambur, Hussain (80) from Ponnani, Kalyani Amma (72) from Katiyangad, Kozhikode, Soumini (74) from Chelannur, Fathima (82) from Kallai, Kanna Panicker (90) from Kozhikode, Ajith Kumar (48) from Chelannur and Hakeem (65) from Cheruthazham, Kannur. This brought the total death toll to 1,969. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
One hundred and seventeen of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State, while 4,904 people were infected through contact. The contact source for 643 was not clear. The worst affected areas are Malappuram 836, Thrissur 614, Kozhikode 534, Alappuzha 519, Palakkad 277, Thiruvananthapuram 343, Ernakulam 283, Kottayam 340, Kollam 331, Kannur 244, Idukki 225, Pathanamthitta 117, Kasaragod 134 and Wayanad 107.
Fifty-eight health workers were affected by the disease. Health workers from Ernakulam 12, Kannur 10, Thrissur 8, Kozhikode 6, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta 5 each, Kollam, Palakkad, Kasaragod 3 each, Malappuram 2 and Wayanad 1 were affected.
The test results of 6,860 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. The district-wise break-up of the cured are Thiruvananthapuram 658, Kollam 596, Pathanamthitta 124, Alappuzha 626, Kottayam 402, Idukki 219, Ernakulam 936, Thrissur 836, Palakkad 406, Malappuram 522, Kozhikode 894, Wayanad 118, Kannur 337 and Kasaragod 146. With this, 68,229 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. A total of 4,75,320 have so far been freed from COVID-19.
There are currently 3,18,025 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 3,01,547 are under home/institutional quarantine and 16,478 are under hospital surveillance. A total of 2,131 people were admitted to hospitals.
There are four new hotspots. The new hotspots are Erur (Cantonment Zone Wards 5, 10, 11, 12, 14) in Kollam district, Kulakada (12), Kamakshi (11 (sub ward), 12) in Idukki district and Paruthur (2) in Palakkad district. Twenty-four areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 565 hotspots.
