5,718 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on Dec. 4; 29 dead

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 5,718 people in Kerala on December 4. The district-wise number of infected are Malappuram 943, Kozhikode 773, Kottayam 570, Thrissur 528, Ernakulam 486, Palakkad 447, Alappuzha 394, Kollam 318, Thiruvananthapuram 279, Kannur 275, Idukki 216, Wayanad 180, Pathanamthitta 163 and Kasaragod 146.

A total of 57,456 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 9.95. Routine sample, Sentinel sample, CBNAT, TRUNAT, POCT. PCR, RT A total of 64,96,210 samples have so far been sent for testing, including LAMP and antigen testing.

Twenty-nine deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19. Sheela Jacob (70) from Mannanthala, Thiruvananthapuram, Brito Boy (78) from Mangad, Kollam, Sivadasan (86) from Kundara, Ibrahimkutty (77) from Decent Junction, Viswanathan Pillai (80) from Kottarakkara, Raveendran (72) from Kundara Parameswaran Nair (87) from Talayolaparambu, Kottayam, Padmanabhan Potti (77) from Pariyaram, Priya (39) from Vadayar, MC Shibu (43) from Kottayam., Kamaluddin (56) from Kanjirapally, Somarajan (53) from Kuttipadi, Rukiya Aziz (73) from Kakkanad, Ernakulam, TN. Bhaskaran (76) from Vypin, Paul Camillus (73) from Mattancherry, Aziz (47) from Kaipamangalam, Thrissur, AT Varghese (80) from Paralam., Muhammad (75) from Kakkavayal, Wayanad Mariam (72) from Kambalakkad, Abdu (45) from Cherur, Malappuram, Haider (76) from Urangadiri, Kunhalavi (86) from Kuttipuram, Thanseera (23) from Anamangad, Kunjimuhammed (66) Kottakkal, Pathumunni (67) from Pathanangadi, Abdulla (47) from Tirurangadi, Radha (73) from Elathur, Kozhikode, Saudath (46) from Thikkodi and Satish Kumar (59) from Farook College were the people who died. This brings the total death toll to 2,358. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Ninety-five of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State. A total of 4,991 people were infected through contact. Contact sources for 572 are not clear. Malappuram 903, Kozhikode 735, Kottayam 559, Thrissur 512, Ernakulam 359, Palakkad 234, Alappuzha 376, Kollam 314, Thiruvananthapuram 174, Kannur 223, Idukki 177, Wayanad 172, Pathanamthitta 115 and Kasaragod 138 were affected by the disease.

A total of 60 health workers were affected. Health workers in Kannur 13, Thiruvananthapuram 8, Thrissur, Ernakulam 7, Palakkad 6, Pathanamthitta 5, Malappuram 4, Kozhikode 3, Idukki, Wayanad, Kasaragod 2 each and Kollam 1 were affected.

The test results of 5,496 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 451, Kollam 662, Pathanamthitta 130, Alappuzha 548, Kottayam 500, Idukki 109, Ernakulam 440, Thrissur 377, Palakkad 444, Malappuram 796, Kozhikode 554, Wayanad 139, Kannur 276 and Kasaragod 70 were negative. With this, 61,401 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 5,61,874 people have so far been freed from COVID-19.

There are currently 3,14,029 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,98,929 are under home / institutional quarantine and 15,100 in hospitals. A total of 1726 people were admitted to hospitals.

There are six new hotspots. The new hotspots are Orumanayoor in Thrissur district (Cantonment zone sub ward 1), Kadangode (7, 18), Thekkumukku (sub ward 18), Paralam (2), Vallachira (9) and Kuttur (sub ward 10) in Pathanamthitta district. Thirty-eight areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 444 hotspots.
