4,991 people confirmed with COVID-19 on Jan 1

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that COVID-19 has confirmed 4,991 people in Kerala on New Year day. The district-wise beak-up of the infected are Ernakulam 602, Malappuram 511, Pathanamthitta 493, Kottayam 477, Kozhikode 452, Thrissur 436, Kollam 417, Thiruvananthapuram 386, Alappuzha 364, Kannur 266, Palakkad 226, Wayanad 174, Idukki 107 and Kasaragod 80.

COVID-19 has so far been confirmed for 37 people who recently came from the UK. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further testing. In the last 24 hours, 52,790 samples have been tested. A total of 79,64,724 samples have so far been sent for testing, including LAMP and antigen testing.

Twenty-three deaths in the last few days were confirmed as due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 3,095. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Ninety-four of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and 4,413 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 425 is not clear. Ernakulam 553, Malappuram 459, Pathanamthitta 433, Kottayam 454, Kozhikode 425, Thrissur 421, Kollam 412, Thiruvananthapuram 248, Alappuzha 353, Kannur 202, Palakkad 120, Wayanad 163, Idukki 102 and Kasaragod 68 were affected by the disease.

Fifty-nine health workers were affected by the disease. Kannur 12, Pathanamthitta 9, Ernakulam, Kozhikode 6 each, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Malappuram 5 each, Wayanad 4, Kollam 3, Alappuzha, Idukki, Palakkad and Kasaragod 1 each.

The test results of 5111 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 357, Kollam 363, Pathanamthitta 255, Alappuzha 393, Kottayam 480, Idukki 144, Ernakulam 594, Thrissur 637, Palakkad 246, Malappuram 480, Kozhikode 707, Wayanad 214, Kannur 213 and Kasaragod 28 were found to be negative. With this, 65,054 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 6,97,591 people have so far been freed from COVID-19.

There are currently 2,43,828 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,31,831 are under home / institutional quarantine and 11,997 in hospitals. A total of 1384 people were admitted to hospitals.
There are two new hotspots. The new hotspots are Parappookkara (Cantonment Zone Ward 16) in Thrissur district and Mezhuveli (Sub Ward 8) in Pathanamthitta district. Four areas were excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are currently a total of 456 hotspots.
