4,505 new COVID cases reported in Kerala on Feb 19

Kerala reported 4,505 new COVID cases and 4,854 recoveries on February 19. Of the new cases, 4,110 contracted the virus through contact.

A total of 67,574 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate was recorded at 6.67 percent

Fifteen covid deaths were reported taking the death toll to 4,061.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam – 535, Kozhikode – 509, Malappuram – 476, Alappuzha – 440, Kollam – 416, Pathanamthitta – 412, Kottayam – 407, Thrissur – 336, Thiruvananthapuram – 333, Kannur – 196, Palakkad – 160, Wayanad – 115, Idukki – 97 and Kasaragod – 73.

Meanwhile, none of the UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 86 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 72 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients were identified with the mutant virus strain. So far, 1,09,06,927 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Trunat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests. 15 deaths were confirmed due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Seventy four of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 4,110 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 288 persons remains unidentified. The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Ernakulam – 493, Kozhikode – 483, Malappuram – 461, Alappuzha – 435, Kollam – 408, Pathanamthitta – 365, Kottayam – 378, Thrissur – 328, Thiruvananthapuram – 257, Kannur – 148, Palakkad – 82, Wayanad – 115, Idukki – 92 and Kasaragod – 65.

Thirty three health workers also tested positive. Among them, 11 from Kannur, 4 each from Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Kozhikode, 3 from Palakkad, 2 each from Thrissur and Kasaragod, 1 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Idukki.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries is: Thiruvananthapuram – 387, Kollam – 427, Pathanamthitta – 566, Alappuzha – 305, Kottayam – 378, Idukki – 93, Ernakulam – 537, Thrissur – 430, Palakkad – 107, Malappuram – 578, Kozhikode – 590, Wayanad – 142, Kannur – 202 and Kasaragod – 112.

There are 59,814 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 9,61,789 people have recovered from the disease. 2,54,520 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,45,239 are under home/institutional quarantine and 9,191 people are in hospitals. 1,093 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.

Four new areas were added to the hotspot list on Friday. 67 places were removed from the list. There are currently 368 hotspots in the state.
