2,129 cured, 1,547 test positive for COVID-19 on Sept. 2

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 1,547 people in Kerala on September 2, while test results of 2,129 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Seven deaths have been confirmed as due to the viral infection on the day.

The district-wise break-up of the infected are as follows: 228 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 204 in Kozhikode district, 159 in Alappuzha district, 146 in Malappuram district, 145 in Kottayam district, 142 in Kannur district, 136 in Ernakulam district, 121 in Thrissur district, 88 in Kasaragod district, 81 in Kollam district, 38 in Wayanad district, 30 in Palakkad district, 17 in Pathanamthitta district and 12 in from Idukki district.

The seven deaths confirmed are that of Aboobacker (60) from Manjeshwaram, Kasaragod, Manjeswaram, Omanakuttan (63) from Kalaykode, Thiruvananthapuram; Silvanna (80) of Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram; Nabeesa Beeran (75) Aluva, Ernakulam; Baby George (60) Kothamangalam, Ernakulam; Sadanandan (57) of Aluva, Ernakulam and Balachandran Nair (63) of Sreekaryam, Thiruvananthapuram. This brings the total death toll to 305. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Twenty-one of those diagnosed with the disease are from foreign countries and 65 from other states. 1,419 people were infected through contact. The contact source of 156 of them is not clear. Thirty-six health workers are affected by the disease. Six INHS District Employees in Ernakulam were also affected by the disease.

There are currently 1,93,736 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of those under observation, 1,75,382 are under home / institutional quarantine and 18,354 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 1439 people were admitted to hospital on the day.

A total of 23,850 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 17,24,658 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 1,79,862 samples were sent for testing from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and people with greater social contact.

There were 13 new hotspots in the State and 17 areas have been excluded from the hotspot.
