Seventeen POCSO courts were inaugurated in Kerala on Tuesday. This is the first phase of setting up 28 POCSO courts in the state in accordance with the Supreme Court directives. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court S Manikumar jointly inaugurated the courts through an online event. The courts will start functioning from Wednesday. Nine more courts will be set up in the State later.
As per statistics, 7,600 POCSO cases and 6,700 rape cases were pending in the state till March 3 this year. In his official statement Mr.Vijayan said social, cultural and economic factors are behind the atrocities against children.
He added that Kerala government will find a comprehensive solution after analysing the whole situation for online crimes against children. He further said the police operation revealed that children are facing insecurity in their homes and added that the assistance of INTERPOL would be taken to solve such crimes.
